Carl L. Jurkiewicz, 78, of Belle Vernon, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021, in Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital. He was born on Feb. 28, 1943, in Monessen, son of the late Casimir and Catherine Dzimiera Jurkiewicz. Carl grew up in Monessen and was a 1960 graduate of Monessen High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from California University of Pennsylvania and his master’s degree in education from West Virginia University. Carl retired from the Pittsburgh Public Schools, where he worked as a principal. He also owned and help operate La Eda’s Family Restaurant in Monessen with his wife Gerry for the past 35 years. He was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Church, Knights of Columbus Council 954 and the Naomi Club. Carl was an avid golfer, having enjoyed many rounds of golf with family and good friends. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Geraldine Pehote Jurkiewicz; two daughters, Christine (Matthew) Charske of Ashburn, Va., Carla (Brian) Rathway of Belle Vernon; five grandsons, Carl, Anthony and Nicolas Oyler and Dylan and Preston Rathway; a great-granddaughter, Jayde Oyler; a sister, Dolores Krempasky of Monongahela; two brothers-in-law, Joel (Kathy) Pehote of Warren, Mich., and Nick (Christine) Pehote of Trenton, Mich.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, John Krempasky. Friends will be received at DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC. AND CREMATION SERVICES, 441 Reed Ave., Monessen, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Services will be held Friday, Dec. 31, 2021, beginning with a blessing service at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a noon funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord Church with the Rev. Michael J. Crookston officiating. Entombment will follow in the Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (stjude.org). Condolences accepted for the family at www.dalfonso-billick.com.
