John P. ‘Skip’ Kerr Sr. – Monongahela

John P. “Skip” Kerr Sr., 81, of Monongahela, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2021, in his home. Born Oct. 27, 1940, in Jefferson, he was the son of Andrew L. Sr. and Mary Ellen Spark Kerr. After graduation from high school and two years of college, Skip entered the U.S. Army NCO Academy. He then served in the 3rd Armored Division stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of sergeant. He retired as an electrician in September 1994 from U.S. Steel. A member of Mingo Presbyterian Church, Skip was also a member of the Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad and of American Legion Post 949 in Carroll Township. He always looked forward to calling bingo at the Monongahela Senior Center and delivering Meals On Wheels, and he enjoyed his Wednesday and Friday morning senior bowling leagues. Surviving are his wife, Patricia P. Trubiani Kerr; son, John P. Kerr Jr. of Elizabeth; daughter and son-in-law, Kelly (Gene) Shelton of Delmont; a sister, Patricia (Ken) Gillie of Sebring, Fla.; four grandchildren, Gena, Nikki, Alexus and Austin; and several great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his two brothers, Howard D. and Andrew L. Kerr Jr.; and a sister, Janet Verlee Young. Friends will be received at MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767, from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday. The Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad will conduct honors in the funeral home at 4:45 p.m. Thursday. Condolences can be made at marshallmarrafuneralhome.com.
