Bishop Edward W. Burdett Sr. – Monongahela

By obits

Bishop Edward W. Burdett Sr., 87, of Monongahela, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2021. He was born Feb. 2, 1934, in Ford Cliff, son of Edward Earl and Annie Marie Spencer Burdett. Brother Burdett entered into the ministry in 1969 and faithfully served the Lord as pastor in The Church of God for 52 years. His pastoral appointments included Rimersburg, Nectarine, Delmar, Butler, New Athens, Six Points, Uniontown, New Eagle and Monongahela. In addition to serving in the office of pastor, Brother Burdett also served the church as district overseer and in a number of committee and auxiliary appointments. Brother Burdett loved the Lord with all of his heart. He was a diligent worker, a good steward, a humble shepherd, a faithful servant and a fierce defender of the doctrine and God’s flock. He was truly an example of what it means to be a Christian, that is to say “Christ-like.” Brother Burdett was always outgoing and loved to tell others about Jesus Christ.  He sought to bring joy and laughter to his congregation, but most importantly, he preached the truth of the Bible unapologetically and without reservation. Brother Burdett was loved by many and will be missed by all of those that knew and loved him. We are comforted in knowing that he has finished life’s race and he is now at rest in the Lord. We look forward to that glad reunion day when we shall worship with him again at the Throne of God. Left to cherish his memory are his two sons, John A. Burdett and Edward W. Burdett Jr., both of Monongahela; daughter, Lisa and husband Walter S. Smith Jr. of Dawson; grandchildren, Walter “BJ” S. Smith III, Holly Huffine and husband Tony; great-grandchildren, Braydon, Preston and Adalyn Grace; three brothers, Wendell Burdett of Ford City, Ronald Burdett and wife Margie of East Liverpool, Ohio, and Jim Burdett and wife Mae of Phoenix, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carrol Kay Gibson Burdett, who died Feb. 26, 2013; three brothers, Stanley Eugene, Marlin Dale and Robert Burdett; and his sister, Barbara Ruth Blaniar. Friends will be received from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 W. Main St., Monongahela. Additional visitations will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2021, at Hile Funeral Home, 128 Main St., Karns City, PA 16041, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2021, with Bishop James Horn and the Rev. Connie Wilson co-officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Chicora. Memorial contributions may be made to The Church of God, 531 W. Main St., Monongahela, PA 15063. Expressions of sympathy may be offered to the family at www.fryefuneralhome.com.
