Matthew W. Sweeney Jr., 60, of Rostraver Township, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2021. Born in Greensburg on June 5, 1961, he was the son of Matthew W. and Eileen McCune Sweeney, who survive and reside in Rostraver. Matthew was a construction inspector for Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County and recently retired after 40 years of service. He was a member of Gospel Alliance Church in Rostraver and UWVA Local No. 164. Matthew loved fishing. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Mary Beth Turnbull Sweeney; sons, Matthew W. Sweeney III (fiancée, Lily Gharib) of Philadelphia and Zachary T. Sweeney of Rostraver; sister, Patricia Sweeney of Camp Hill; nieces and nephews; and best friend, John Zapp. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, 2021, at JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township, 724-929-7934, www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com. Additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20, at Gospel Alliance Church, 1011 Fells Church Road, Rostraver Township, Pa., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Alan Petke officiating. Interment will follow in West Newton Cemetery.
