Helen Joan Ferencic Gerbin – Washington Township

Helen Joan Ferencic Gerbin, 94, of Washington Township, passed away on Friday, Dec. 17, 2021, in Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital. A daughter of the late Josip and Helen Martinjak Ferencic, she was born in Brownsville on Jan. 8, 1927. Helen was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church and Croatian Fraternal Lodge 194. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, cooking and baking for her family and taking care of her flowers around her home. Survivors include her loving family: one daughter, Paulette Gerbin of Washington Township, with whom she made her home; a sister, Catherine Pazo of Clairton; a brother and three sisters-in-law, Joseph and Dolores Ferencic of Bethel Park, Barbara Costello of Lakeland, Fla., and Kay Ferris of Lafayette Hill; a brother-in-law, Leonard (Dawn Ann) Gerbin of Holiday, Fla. She was a cherished aunt of David (Ann) Steele, Kim Porter, Cindy Ferencic, Edward (Beth) Pazo II, James (Kim) Kovacs, Jeffrey (Mary) Ferencic, Maureen Gerbin and Eileen (John) Sarris; and the great-aunt of Alexandra and Edward Pazo III, Sam Kovacs, Mary Steele, Daniel and Anna Rubenstein and Matthew and Nicole Sarris. She is also survived by her dog, Mala Tina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul “Nick” Gerbin on Feb. 23, 2018; and a sister, Mary Ann Plevel in 2009. Special thanks to her caregiver and friend, Patty Podvorec, Nadine Davis, R.N. and the nurses and care techs of 3 PCU at Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital and the doctors, Dr. Almaan El-Attrache, Dr. Samra El-Attrache and Dr. Mouhanad Al-Fakih, for their compassion and friendship. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, 2021, at FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 700 Broad Ave. Belle Vernon, 724-929-5300, www.FergusonFuneralHomeandCrematory.com. A blessing service will be in the funeral home at noon Monday, Dec. 20, followed by a funeral Mass at 12:30 p.m. in St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Crookston as celebrant. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Park.
