Edward F. Ofcharik, 91, of Monongahela, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021, at home. He was born Nov. 10, 1930, in Lock Four, Charle- roi. Following his graduation from high school, Ed was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he spent the next 20 years serving in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. In 1968, he retired from the Army, earning the rank of master sergeant, and received the Bronze Star, Commendation Medal and the Purple Heart from injuries during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he and his late wife opened Ed’s Service and Repair and U-Haul rentals in Monongahela. Catholic by faith, he was a member of the Carroll Township American Legion, the Carroll Township VFD and the Slovenian Heritage Association of Pittsburgh. Surviving are four sons, Frank (Debbie), Norman, Michael and Ronald (Dianne) Ofcharik; a sister, Mary Jane (Joseph) Mundorf of Clairton; and two granddaughters, Melissa Ward and Monica Ofcharik. Preceding him in death was his wife, Gertrud Ofcharik, who passed away March 26, 2008. Friends will be received from 10:30 to 11 a.m., the time of the service, in Mon Valley Memorial Park Chapel, Donora, on Monday Dec. 20, 2021, with Pastor Josh Green officiating. Interment will follow with military honors conducted by the Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad.
