Janice Mae Letavec, 73, of Venetia, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, in the Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital. She was born Jan. 15, 1948, in Detroit, Mich., daughter of Myron Mead and Lillian Maggie Mackie Case. Jan grew up in Proctor, Minn., and at the age of 15, her mother passed away. It was at this time that she went to live with her aunt. After graduating high school, Janice worked at the Salvation Army and then at Geno’s Industries. She met the love of her life, Ron, while he was stationed at the U.S. Air Force base in Duluth, Minn. They moved back to Monongahela, where they lived for numerous years. For 10 years, she was employed as a cashier at the Monongahela Foodland and also spent her time taking care of her granddaughter. She was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Monongahela. Jan enjoyed embroidering and was a great cook. She especially loved cooking Christmas dinner and for summer picnics. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Letavec, with whom she celebrated 52 years of marriage on Aug. 30, 2021; son, Adam Letavec of Monongahela; granddaughter, Abigail Marie Letavec; and two nieces, Terri Case Magdzas and husband Dennis and Tamara “Tammy” Case-Belich and husband Dan, all of Minnesota. Private visitations and services were held in the FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 W. Main St., Monongahela. Committal services and interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Township. Memorial contributions may be made to Madonna Catholic Regional School, 731 Chess St., Monongahela, PA 15063. Expressions of sympathy may be offered to the family at www.fryefuneralhome.com.
