Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign in need of donations, volunteers

It might require a Christmas miracle to reach the Salvation Army Mon Valley Citadel’s red kettle drive goal this year.
With the holiday a little more than two-weeks away, the Monessen-based agency is still far off from its $62,000 annual kettle campaign goal. “As of today, we are at $29,000, so that is shorter than where we were at last year at this time,” said Capt. Sue Thwaite said.
But, Thwaite has unwavering faith in God and Mon Valley residents who always come through for the agency. The Salvation Army provides emergency assistance and food for families and year-round programs for children. It also operates a food pantry and provides utility bill assistance.
