By obits

Leonard “Wayne” Doyle, 79, of Mackeyville, Pa., passed away Saturday, Dec. 5, 2021, at The Gatehouse at Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport. Born June 25, 1942, in Charleroi, he was the son of the late Albert and Catherine Caramela Doyle. Following his graduation from Charleroi High School in 1961, Wayne joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany until his honorable discharge. Wayne attended the Career Academy of Broadcasting and spent five years as a DJ in Havre de Grace, Md., and on Uptown Radio out of Somerset, Pa. In his earlier years, he served as a riverboat cook on the Monongahela, Ohio and Mississippi rivers. On June 18, 1983, in Mackeyville, he was honored to become the loving husband of the former Roberta A. “Bobbie” Fortney, who survives. He retired from the Somerset County Assistance Office after 11 years of service and relocated to Clinton County, where he was a homemaker for many years until returning to work at the Clinton County Assistance Office until his retirement in 2002. Wayne also served as a shop steward for more than 11 years for the Pennsylvania Social Service Union and continued his membership as a retiree. He was a member of the Lock Haven Elks and a past board member at the inception of the Clinton County Women’s Center. Wayne had a true appreciation for older cars, especially “big” cars, and enjoyed cooking. He had a passion for plants, with his fig tree being his pride. His love of music crossed decades and genres. He found his Band of Brothers in his involvement with the Susquehanna Valley Big Twins motorcycle club, where he was honored to hold the first social membership. Later, as a charter member, Wayne held the offices of treasurer, vice president and trustee. At the time of his passing, he was a charter emeritus. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Brian W. (Jennifer) Doyle of Ohio; a daughter, Vonna K. (Henry) DeArmond of Pipersville, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Logan and Aiden Doyle and Zeke, Immy, Judah, Shane and Darby DeArmond; his loving cat, Blackie; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, outlaws and friends that span seven decades. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his first wife, F. Avalaun Harrill Doyle; and his sister, Patricia A. Walker. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, at DONALD G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME INC., 231 High St., Flemington, PA 17745, with Pastor Daniel Christopher officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Mill Hall. Friends and family will be received for a time of viewing Thursday from noon until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Susquehanna Valley Big Twins Club (SVBT), the Annie Halenbake Ross Library or a charity of the donor’s choice.
