It’s impossible to do an apples-to-apples comparison between quarterbacks Bernie Galiffa of Donora and Monongahela’s Joe Montana. Factors such as their school’s strength of schedules, number of games played, and the overwhelming fact that Montana went on to become an NFL Hall of Famer, cloud the comparison. However, comparing their high school and college careers is not at all an outrageous, misguided comparison like an apples-to-watermelons contrast. Donora High athlete Speer Ruey, an acquaintance of Joe Montana, once couldn’t resist teasing him.
