Angela Gallo Lancas, 101, of Monessen, died Monday, Nov. 22, 2021, in Monon-gahela Valley Hospital. She was born Sept. 2, 1920, in Mangone, Cosenza, Italy, the daughter of Francesco (died in 1975) and Teresina (died in 1939) Berardi Gallo. Angela immigrated to the United States in 1927. She graduated from Monessen High School in 1939 with perfect attendance. She then graduated from the Douglas School of Business in 1941 and from beauty school in Charleroi in 1945. Angela worked at Jimmy Bonafed’s beauty shop during the 1940s and later became bookkeeper at Monessen Vulcanizing, where she worked for Jasper and Joe Bonafed. She worked for over 50 years. Angela married John Lancas at St. Cajetan Catholic Church in Monessen. John was a soldier in World War II and a prisoner of war in Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge. She had been a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church, the Epiphany Ladies and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was a regular attendee of the monthly Rosary of Council No. 954 of the Knights of Columbus. Angela was also a member of the former Italian Mutual Aid Society Auxiliary and the Italian American Heritage Society. She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Balistere and husband John; son, Dr. John Lancas and wife Nancy; and brother, Joseph J. and wife Mary Ann Nescot Gallo. Beside her children and brother, she leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Lancas, who died in 1997; grandson, Mark Lancas; and two sisters, Marie Gallo and Amelia “Millie” Gallo Panepinto. Friends will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2021, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 W. Main St., Monongahela. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at noon, Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021, at Epiphany of Our Lord Church with the Rev. Michael J. Crookston as celebrant. Committal services and interment will follow in the Holy Name Cemetery, Monessen. Expressions of sympathy may be offered to the family at www.fryefuneralhome.com.
