Matthew John Borrelli, 95, of Ashburn, Va., formerly of White Oak, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2021. Matthew was born Sept. 21, 1926, in McKeesport, to the late Louis and Mary Delfini Borrelli. Matthew retired in 1989 from Sears in West Mifflin. Prior to that he served with distinction in the military during World War II, where, among other things, while stationed in Alaska he met Colonel Doolittle in advance of the raid on Tokyo in 1942. Matthew met his late wife, Bernice Stokan Borrelli, at the Croatian Club in McKeesport. They were married for 62 years and had three children; Brian Borrelli (Susanne), the late Major Glenn Borrelli (Debby) and Diane (Montera) Borrelli. Matthew is also survived by six grandchildren, Katie and Anna Borrelli, John Borrelli (Brooke)and Matthew, Katherine and Amanda Montera. He was cherished by his family and friends and will be sadly missed. His passion for playing cards, telling stories, talking business, baking and cooking will be remembered by all. Rite of Committal and interment will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Port Vue, Pa. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to celebrate Matt’s life by doing something to make someone smile and to remember and cherish our time together on this earth.
