Robert Joseph Vertacnik, 63, of Suisun City, Calif., passed away Oct. 5, 2021, at David Grant Medical Center Travis AFB, following a brief illness. He was born Aug. 5, 1958, in Greensburg, son of Robert A. Vertacnik of West Newton and the late Josephine Sawa Vertacnik. He grew up in Collinsburg, Rostraver Township, and was a graduate of Belle Vernon Area High School, Class of 1976. He enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he retired as a senior master sergeant after 20 years of service. He studied at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and worked as an aviation maintenance technician for United Airlines until his death. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Sunyo, of Suisun City, Calif.; two sisters, Mary Jo Sorrento and husband Orlando of Estero, Fla., and Leanne Turner and husband Brian of Manassas, Va.; two nieces, Hayley and Alyssa Turner, also of Manassas, Va. He was preceded in death by his brother, Eric L. Vertacnik.
