Velia M. Melencheck – Monongahela

Velia M. Melencheck, 98, of Monongahela, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021, in her home. She was born Oct. 7, 1923, in Bunola, the daughter of Deliso and Ida Piastrelli Mucci. Velia was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Monongahela. For many years she was employed as a secretary for Carroll Township. She also worked for the Area Agency on Aging at the Health Center in Monessen, as well as working at various libraries in the Mon Valley area. She was a member of the Italian Heritage Society of Monongahela. Velia enjoyed baking, and in her younger years, golfing and going to the opera. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by three sons, Theodore J. Melencheck and wife Helen of Solon, Ohio, Randall Melencheck and wife Mildred and Theodore R. Melencheck and wife Danielle, all of Canonsburg; granddaughter, Nicole Melencheck; three great-grandchildren, Cali Nestor, Amelia Melencheck and Michael Brown; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Melencheck; and great-granddaughter, Jasmine Melencheck. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 W. Main St., Monongahela, where a blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021. Committal services and interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, c/o Monongahela Sr. Center, 102 W. Main Street, Monongahela, PA 15063.
