Dorothy V. Bachkay – formerly of Monongahela
Dorothy V. Bachkay, 96, formerly of Monongahela, entered eternal life on Monday, Sept. 6, 2021, at the Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Facility. Born in Monongahela to Sue Stank and John W. Sarnosky, she remained a resident of Monongahela for 82 years and was a lifetime member of the former Transfiguration parish, now St. Andrew the Apostle parish. Dorothy was active in the parish and its organizations including the Altar/Rosary Society, Christian Mothers and the Catholic Daughters of America. In her senior years, she was active with the Monongahela Senior Center and was a regular and substitute driver for Meals on Wheels program. She was outgoing and loved people and helping wherever and whenever she could. Leaving Monongahela in 2007, she took up residence at the newly renovated Jeanne Jugan apartments at the Little Sisters of the Poor. She lived independently for nine years and then five years in St. Anne. She was devoted to her Catholic faith and had a deep devotion to the Blessed Mother. She prayed her rosary daily and attended Mass in the Chapel. She always prayed to the Holy Spirit. Dorothy dearly missed the loved ones who preceded her in death: her parents; husband, Michael Bachkay; brother, Edward J. Sarnosky, brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Norma Bachkay, Ann and George Bobik, Mary Ellen Trombino and numerous friends. She is survived by her son, Rev. John M. Bachkay, priest of the Diocese of Pittsburgh; nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021, at the THOMAS P. KUNSAK FUNERAL HOME, 3552 California Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15212. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, Sept. 10, at St. Damien of Molokai Church, formerly Transfiguration Church, of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, 722 W. Main St., Monongahela, Pa. 15063. PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH. Interment in Monongahela Cemetery. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, a memorial Mass and reception will be scheduled at the Little Sisters of the Poor at a later date in Gloria Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 1028 Benton Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15212. Our hearts cannot express the gratitude we feel for the Sisters and the dedicated staff, volunteers and the resident family of the Benton Avenue home. They truly have been a gift and a blessing.
