Nancy Christine Godfrey

By obits

Nancy Christine Godfrey, 68, was surrounded by family as she unexpectedly left this world on Aug. 24, 2021, to be with her beloved Jesus. She lived a life of transformative grace. Every person who knew her was a witness to the transformative power of Jesus Christ in her. She lived a servant’s life and modeled a servant’s heart, not to only her family, whom she loved fiercely, but also to everyone she met. Her love and example always pointed everyone to Jesus, whom she faithfully served her entire life. For some, she was the closest example of Jesus Christ’s unconditional love. Nancy Christine Godfrey, daughter of the King, began her earthly existence on Dec. 29, 1952, as the daughter of Robert and Beatrice Blair Meek. She was the middle child of seven children and has become known as the glue that kept her family together. Nancy was the wife to the love of her life, Dennis, to whom she had been married for 50 years. She was a loving mother and best friend to her three children, Rachel, Christopher, David; and Tanya Blair, whom she welcomed into her home and loved as her own. Nancy was also a devoted sister and unspoken matriarch to her family, a beloved aunt and an amazing friend and mentor to anyone who would give her the opportunity to speak into their lives. Nancy graduated from Donora High School and Community College of Allegheny County, where she earned her nursing degree, and spent the next 40 years working and serving her community as a registered nurse. She was very conscientious in serving her patients with dignity, respect and true compassion and never missed the opportunity to share the center of what made her such an amazing nurse — her love and faith in her savior, Jesus Christ. Some of her nursing experiences included working at Monongahela Valley Hospital, Albert Gallatin Home Care and UPMC Health Plan as a congestive heart failure case manager. She was a loyal and founding member of the HOPE Church, where she could always be found up front, leading by example, worshipping her beloved Jesus. Her lifelong relationship with Jesus allowed her to have the wisdom and knowledge to speak into others’ lives, providing strength and answers to those she was ministering to and praying for. Her greatest joy was leading others in choosing to follow Jesus and then getting to sit back and watch as He transformed their lives. This led her to co-found the ministry known as Rivers of Healing Ministries with her husband and daughter. She found such great joy in praying for others and teaching others how to pray for those who were sick and/or struggling with life’s trials. Nancy is survived by her husband, Dennis; her children, Rachel Lynn, Christopher Michael, David Vincent and Tanya Blair; her brothers, Daniel (Susan) Meek, Philip (Jill) Meek and Jonathan Meek; and her sister, Rebecca (David) Loving; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Vicki Johnson; and her brother, Robbie Meek. Arrangements have been entrusted to SHROCK-HOGAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., 226 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, PA 15022. Pastor Jeffrey Marton of the HOPE Church will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the HOPE Church Building Fund in Nancy’s honor, a cause that held a very special place in Nancy’s heart. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 4, at Nancy’s second favorite place to be, the HOPE Church, 813 Fayette Ave., Belle Vernon, Pa. A celebration of life will also be held at the HOPE Church at noon Saturday, Sept. 4, followed by a private interment at Mon Valley Memorial Park. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.schrock-hogan.com.
