A new Washington County district attorney has been sworn in after the passing of the late District Attorney Gene Vittone.
Jason M. Walsh, who served as first assistant to Vittone since October, was sworn in as the District Attorney of Washington County on Aug. 23, following Vittone’s death Aug. 21.
Vittone died after a battle with lung cancer and was laid to rest Thursday. Walsh described Vittone as a great community leader and district attorney, and said it is a tragic loss.
Walsh has been with the DA’s office since 2016. He is a lifelong Washington County resident who grew up in Donora. He graduated from St. Francis University in 1993 and graduated from Ohio Northern School of law in 1996.
Before joining the District Attorney’s Office, Walsh had a private practice, Bigi & Walsh, in Charleroi for 20 years.
In addition to his time in private practice, Walsh previously served as Washington County Children and Youth Services Solicitor for nine years.
During Walsh’s tenure in the DA’s office to date, he has prosecuted major crimes, including homicides and other felonies.
