Fire department to celebrate merger by holding Fun Fest

The recently merged Elizabeth Township Volunteer Fire Department will host its first-ever Community Fun Fest Sept. 11.

The event will be held in the front yard of Elizabeth Forward Middle School from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

“With the merger, we wanted to make sure it showed the camaraderie and the unity of the department,” said Jessica Walter, the department spokeswoman.

After more than a year of paperwork and court approval, Elizabeth Central, Blythedale and Greenock have merged into one department with three stations, now known as the Elizabeth Township Volunteer Fire Department, or simply ET 140.

“We wanted to do something that was fun, you didn’t have to travel for it and that would bring positivity to the community,” Walter said.

The free event will include a DJ, games, treats and attractions for children, a selection of food trucks and basket raffles featuring items donated by local businesses.  Head Start will have a table set up with information about the early education program.

Candelore’s Barking Beauties pet grooming is sponsoring two large bounce houses, and the McKeesport Fire Department is bringing its smoke trailer, which simulates what it’s like to be inside a smoke-filled home, Walter said. Bags filled with fire safety materials will be handed out to educate children about what to do in the event of a fire.
