LeRoy A. ‘Lee’ Nicolaus – North Belle Vernon

LeRoy A. “Lee” Nicolaus, 86, of North Belle Vernon, passed away Friday, Aug. 20, 2021, at Mon Valley Care Center, Carroll Township. Born Aug. 12, 1935, in Belle Vernon, he was the son of the late August and Marguerite E. Headley Nicolaus. A resident of North Belle Vernon for more than 60 years, Mr. Nicolaus was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, Belle Vernon, and was a retired superintendent of postal operations. Lee was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a Green Beret during the Korean War, was a member of Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659, Belle Vernon Knights of Columbus Council 3026, enjoyed bowling, was an avid golfer in several area leagues and enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas. Lee was known for being a very sweet and soft-spoken man. He is survived by his wife, Marlene Stakias Perozzi Nicolaus, to whom he was married 19 years; daughter, Lee Ann Nicolaus and partner Michelle Zmarzly of Garfield Heights, Ohio; stepchildren, Lisa M. and Lee Gniefkowski of Monessen, Michael J. and Michele Perozzi of North Belle Vernon, David T. Perozzi of New York, N.Y.; seven step-grandchildren, Brett and Shane Scagline, and Lydia, Marissa, Melina, Lain and Rosalyn Perozzi; and a sister, Eleanor Nicolaus and Eric Hamilton of Virginia. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Mark C. Nicolaus; son, Ronald O. Nicolaus; and a brother, Larry Nicolaus. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at PARZYNSKI FUNERAL HOME & CREMATIONS LLC, family owned and operated, 626 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, 724-929- 6183. Prayers of transfer will be held at noon Monday in the funeral home, followed by a 12:30 p.m. funeral Mass at St. Sebastian R.C. Church with the Rev. Michael J. Crookston as celebrant. Entombment will take place in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Belle Vernon American Legion will conduct services Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
