Julia ‘Julie’ Svec Amendola – Monessen

By obits

Julia “Julie” Svec Amendola, 102, was called to the side of her Lord on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2021. She was born on March 2, 1919, and raised in Roscoe. She met Angelo “Orangie” Amendola at a dance at the Italian Hall and they married and raised their family in Monessen. Following “Orangie’s” passing in 1977, Julie traveled the U.S. to visit family, with trips to Florida, Nashville, New York City and Boston, and helped raise the young children of her “adopted” families. A dear friend to many, she enjoyed going to the movies and meeting with fellow members of the Red Hat Society. She welcomed two great-grandchildren as their beloved “Gubby” and was proud to be able to see them graduate high school and go on to college. She spent time each year in Las Vegas with her daughter, enjoying countless shows and crab leg dinners. A devout churchgoer and a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church and its Epiphany Ladies group in Monessen, Julie spent many years as a volunteer at the St. Vincent de Paul Store and was a valued member of the award-winning pierogi making team. One of her favorite times of the week were Saturday nights, when she would go to Mass, dinner and bingo with devoted friends Joe and Sandy Greco of Donora and Patty Lang of Monessen. She lived independently for many years, enjoying a cold Rolling Rock after mowing her lawn, making ravioli and pizzelles, and driving her own car until she was 101. Julie is survived by her son, A. Joseph Amendola of Washington, Pa.; her daughter, Carole (Bruce Janoff) Amendola of Henderson, Nev.; grandson, Michael (Jerilyn Fortsch) Amendola of East Northport, N.Y.; granddaughter, Julianne (Dan Jensen) Amendola of Minneapolis, Minn.; and two great-grandsons, Michelangelo and Theo. Friends will be received at DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC. & CREMATION SERVICES, 441 Reed Ave., Monessen, from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2021. A service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021, beginning with a 9:30 a.m. blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral mass at Epiphany of Our Lord Church, 44 Pennsylvania Blvd., Monessen, with Father Michael J. Crookston officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Viaquest Foundation, 610 Park Ave., Monongahela, PA 15063 or Hallsworth House, Attn. Toni Bucci (Activities), 1575 Grand Blvd., Monessen, PA 15062. Condolences accepted for the family at www.dalfonso-billick.com.
