EF plans capital improvements

Capital improvements are planned for the 2021-22 school year in the Elizabeth Forward School District, building on projects over the past year.

Buildings and grounds manager  Zak DiGorio presented improvements planned for this year to the school board during last week’s agenda meeting. Director of Finance and Operations Al Ragan said $1.3 million is budgeted for capital improvements this school year, with about half of those funds coming from the savings generated by refinancing the district’s bond issues.

DiGorio said that during last year’s capital improvement projects, the district replaced stadium lighting with new lighting that is more cost-efficient and makes it easier for players to track the ball in the air. Improvements were also made to the track.

Smaller projects included milling and paving the Mt. Vernon Elementary School driveway loop, repairing sidewalks, remulching the elementary playgrounds and refinishing gym floors.

DiGorio said the William Penn Elementary School roof will be rehabilitated this year. Also, the power supply at the high school will be addressed with new boiler controls that can be monitored and adjusted off-site.

“It also does diagnostics. It’s going to help with the longevity of our equipment,” DiGorio said.
