Robert M. Lieber, 71, of Surprise, Ariz., formerly of Monessen, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Crescent Surprise Assisted Living, Surprise, Ariz. Born Dec. 19, 1949, in McKeesport, he was the oldest son of the late Herschel and Harriet Robinowitz Lieber. Affectionately known as “Housecat” by family and friends, Bob grew up in Monessen and graduated from Monessen High School, Class of 1968. He then attended West Penn Tech in Pittsburgh. Upon graduation from there, Bob entered the Army Reserves on Aug. 25, 1970. He went on active duty Nov. 29, 1972, and was sent to Frankfurt, Germany. Due to back issues, he was then admitted to Walter Reed Army Hospital and later honorably discharged on June 26, 1973. Upon his return to Monessen, Bob went to work for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel until the mill closed in November 1985. He then moved to Marina del Rey, Calif., and worked for his brother, Brad. He then moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where he settled and worked as a security officer for various security companies, including Pinkerton and Wackenhut, until he retired in 2017. Bob is survived by his twin brother, Steve (Eileen) of University Heights, Ohio; his younger brother, Bradley and sister-in-law Janet of Danville, Calif.; nieces, Kim Lieber (Mike) of University Heights, Ohio, and Dana Morrissey (Shaun) of New York City, N.Y.; nephew Ryan Lieber (Olivia) of London, England; cousin Rick (Carol) Lieber of Dubois; and many other family and friends. A memorial celebration will be held at a later date in Monessen.
