The Belle Vernon Area School Board voted Tuesday to offer a contract to a new superintendent.
The contract with Dr. Ken Williams, who currently works in the administrative offices in the Mt. Pleasant Area School District, is expected to be ratified at Monday’s school board meeting. The four-year deal has a starting salary of $146.500, according to board president Joel Whiteko.
“It is contingent on the formal signing of the contract and the candidate’s release from his current position,” Whiteko said.
School Director Joe Grata cast the lone no vote, saying after the meeting that his vote was based on the fact that a formal contract has not yet been negotiated.
“I’m not going to vote for superintendent, the most important position in the district, because I haven’t seen the contract,” Grata said.
Williams has held a variety of administrative positions with Mt. Pleasant, serving this past year as the district’s pandemic coordinator among other duties. Williams said he has worked in the Mt. Pleasant Area School District for 13 years, starting as the junior/senior high school principal before moving into the central administration office.
Williams said he is looking forward to his new duties as superintendent in the Belle Vernon Area School District.
“It was a career opportunity. I love the area and meeting some of these folks, I felt very comfortable,” Williams said.
