The Rostraver Township Commissioners tonight are expected to take up the issue of banning parking on Municipal Drive and Beazell Road.
The commissioners are also considering the same ban for Cedar Hills Drive, but that road has not yet been taken over by the township.
“I’d like to move forward with Municipal and Beazell because of the situation going on Beazell. There have been so many police calls down there,” said Commissioners’ President John Lorenzo.
There have been complaints on Beazell Road that residents are unable to get into or out of their own driveways because of the number of vehicles parked along the road, the commissioners said.
A similar situation is occurring along Municipal Drive on select days due to the high level of traffic at the magisterial district judge’s office. Code Enforcement Officer Frank Monack said there are times even police vehicles are causing a problem by parking along the road, potentially making it difficult for fire trucks and other emergency vehicles to get through.
“We need to send a letter to the magistrate to notify the police departments that they can’t park on the street either,” Monack said. “He may have to change his schedule a little, but I’ve seen as many as 30 cars parked along the road on Mondays.”
Once the parking ban is given final approval by the commissioners, notices will also be sent to the residents who live on the affected streets to notify them of the change prohibiting on-street parking.
The commissioners’ meeting is set for 6 p.m. today.
