The Mon Valley Independent Summer Basketball League’s boys division playoff field is set and bursting into the fray and into the final spot is Howard Hanna Wilson Baum.
Leading by only four with 2:43 remaining, Howard Hanna (5-5) ended the game on a 12-0 run to eliminate Union Cleaners from playoff contention with a 79-65 win.
Leading the way for assistant coach Kasey McIntyre and Howard Hanna was Chartiers Valley freshman Jayden Davis, who poured in a game-high 27 points.
“Jayden coming back this week was a gamechanger for us,” McIntyre said. “When we have him on the floor, he’s our distributor. But he’s so quick to the basket and he came out hitting on all cylinders tonight.”
Backing up Davis’ output was the league’s leading scorer, Keondre Deshields. Deshields (Laurel Highlands) dumped in 23 points, nine points below his average. Kiski Prep’s Robert Cain added 14.
“When we can get everyone rolling and filling the basket, it’s an advantage,” McIntyre said. “Keondre is going to get over 20 per game. That’s the type of player he is. Now, Jayden’s coming into his own and Robert has the ability to score as well. Three scorers in double figures is where we want to be.”
