Flyboarding takes water enthusiasts to new heights

An activity usually found at high-end resorts and pricey beach vacations is being offered free to children in the Elizabeth area.

Elizabeth businessman Gabriel Taylor is sharing his love of flyboarding with youths in his hometown.

“There’s no other feeling like it. You’re flying above water by yourself and you’re free,” Taylor said. “They don’t have much for kids to do in this town and the river is right in our backyard.”

Taylor put a notice on Facebook that he wanted to offer flyboarding kids’ camp this summer. He immediately had about 75 people reach out to him, some from as far away as Peters and Kennedy townships. The number of spaces available is limited, so Taylor has been keeping the participation in the free sessions local.

Taylor can accommodate eight to 10 children a day, weather and river conditions permitting, with each child getting individualized instruction during a 45-minute to one-hour session. At this point he isn’t accepting any more reservations and is simply making his way down the waiting list as sessions become available.

“Obviously, their safety is my biggest concern,” Taylor said. “It’s super important that the life vests are on properly. I teach them hand signals and we use headsets for directions.”
