Carlow University has a new director of athletics and he is no stranger to the Mon Valley.

Lou Zadecky was named to the post Wednesday after serving nearly seven years in the same position at Penn State-Fayette campus.

Zadecky, 47, a native of Carroll Township who currently resides in Hempfield Township, said while he is excited to take over leadership of the Pittsburgh-based college, it is bittersweet as well.

“I really enjoyed my time at Fayette,” Zadecky said. “I wasn’t really looking to leave, but I talked to some people and things just happened.

“It’s an opportunity I just couldn’t pass us.”

Zadecky, a 1992 graduate of Ringgold where he was a standout athlete, said he had some good connections with Carlow from his days of coaching basketball at Greater Allegheny.

“When I was there, I met some good people at Carlow at I had good feelings about that school, but they were coaching related,” he said. “When the job came open, I talked to my parents and I talked to Tim Keefer. Tim and I have a good relationship and he’s been a good person to run things by.”

Keefer is also the men’s basketball coach at Carlow.

“I went to the campus and just fell in love,” he said. “I’m really excited to get started.”
