White Oak makes progress with late garbage bills

White Oak’s solicitor gave an update at Monday’s council meeting on where things stand with collection of delinquent garbage bills stretching back to 2018.

She said that since April 16, McGrail & Associates, working with the borough, has collected $81,373.64 worth of late garbage bills.

McGrail said legal action is intended to be taken against some the holders of some delinquent accounts.

“It is our intention to take the largest 15 accounts to the magistrate,” she said. “These would be the accounts that we have not heard from the property on in any form.

“If someone is on a payment plan, we’re not taking them to the magistrate. Obviously, if someone has paid their account in full they are marked that way, but we need to move forward with those we have heard nothing from.”

With all members present, council voted Monday to approve McGrail & Associates taking the legal action against the accounts.

Council has talked about the delinquent bills at many meetings this year, and took action at the February meeting when McGrail said she’d been talking with Borough Manager John Palyo about a “significant number” of delinquent garbage bills from 2018, 2019 and 2020.
