Monessen residents and Club Serenity representatives will meet at 6 p.m. Friday at city hall on Donner Avenue to discuss the recovery home in the 1200 block of Nash Avenue.
Those who live near the house can have their questions and concerns addressed directly by Club Serenity representatives, said Mayor Matt Shorraw, but only if their comments are made in a respectful, professional manner.
“We have to keep it civil so we can get accurate information out there,” Shorraw said.
Neighbors of the new home purchased by Club Serenity with grant money from the Westmoreland County Drug and Alcohol Commission have expressed concerns and opposition at two council meetings this month.
Initial concerns have included residents’ beliefs that Club Serenity would be operating a business from the house and that it would be a treatment center.
Mindi McCloy, Club Serenity executive secretary, and Lee Roberts, vice president, spoke to residents at last week’s council meeting and told them the club is a nonprofit and the house is just a home for people who are sober.
The house will not be a treatment center, it will be a place for men to rent rooms once they’re sober and have completed treatment.
The rental fees go back into Club Serenity coffers to keep the nonprofit running.
