Arthur B. “Handlebars’’ Smith Jr., 84, of West Columbia, S.C., formerly of Daisytown, Pa., died Thursday, July 15, 2021. Born in McKeesport on March 18, 1937, he was the son of the late Arthur B. and Edith M. Long Smith Sr. Art was a retired truck driver for SuperValu. He enjoyed farming, hunting, camping and especially spending time with family. One of his favorite pastimes was singing and playing music at bluegrass festivals, senior centers and with the Old Time Fiddlers. He is survived by his wife, Martha Mimidis Speers Smith; sons, Walter D. Smith of Ankeny, Iowa, and William R. Smith of Jeannette; daughters, Mary Ann (René) Von Arx of Brigham, Quebec; Carol J. Smartnick of Greensburg, Edie M. (Kevin) Welshons of Ligonier, Esther R. (James) Todd of Deltona, Fla., and Patricia J. Gillon of Belle Vernon; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; as well as stepchildren, Van (Robin) Speers of Aliquippa, Peggy (Arnold) Alier of West Columbia, S.C., and Scott Speers of Miami, Okla.; eight step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great grandchildren. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township, 724-929-7934, www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, with Pastor Gary Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery, Rostraver Township.
