Monessen Council fielded several questions Tuesday night about the former Mon Valley Community Health Center building, which was used as the Monessen Municipal Complex before the current location on Donner Avenue.
In December 2016, Virginia businessman Krishnan Suthanthiran bought the complex for $425,000 for his company, Best Medical International. The plan was for the company to transform the complex into a “nucleus for an entire high-tech medical industry for Monessen,” Dave Strong of Best Medical said at the time.
The sale was completed and initiated under former mayor Lou Mavrakis’ administration.
Monessen resident Edwin Lefevre said he wrote a letter to the editor to the Mon Valley Independent about the purchase and the current state of payments for the building to the city and was disappointed that residents didn’t follow up his letter by seeking more information.
Lefevre said he wanted factual information about the transaction and he had eight questions to ask about it.
He asked where Suthanthiran is, where the jobs Suthanthiran promised are and has he been in contact recently with Mayor Matt Shorraw’s administration?
