Carroll Township: Police calls are returning to levels prior to pandemic

As COVID restrictions ease, Carroll Township police calls are seeing a return to pre-pandemic totals, according to the township’s police chief.

At Tuesday’s supervisors’ meeting, police Chief Paul Brand said police calls are slowly but steadily on the rise from last year when Washington County’s 911 police calls were at some of their lowest points in recent history due to COVID restrictions and closures.

Brand said this year’s total of county 911 police calls looks to be on pace to reach 2019’s total, which was approximately 1,400 to 1,500.

He said last year’s number of calls was about 1,100.

Despite the slight increase in police calls, Brand said he was optimistic. He said in 2000, county 911 police calls numbered approximately 1,800.

“The good news is from 1,800 calls to 1,400 calls is a nice drop over the years,” Brand said. “The township’s moving in the right direction.”
