Bikepacking is the new trend in bicycling.
By exploring new terrains, trails, countrysides and off-the-beaten-path areas on two wheels, cyclists can camp in the most remote places.
Allegheny Cleanways, a Pittsburgh-based organization, will bring a twist to bikepacking when the group visits McKeesport this weekend for its first-ever Tri-Trash-Lon event.
Billed as “bike-dumpbust-camp,” the event will be held Saturday and Sunday and will feature two days of bicycling, camping, socializing and cleaning up trash throughout McKeesport to help fight illegal dumping in the area.
According to Allegheny Cleanways land-based program coordinator Dani Kramer, cyclists will start on Pittsburgh’s South Side Saturday morning and pedal their way to McKeesport along the Great Allegheny Passage. Camps will be situated at Queen Aliquippa campground in Buena Vista.
“I think McKeesport gets overlooked by bikers and campers,” Kramer said. “This is our chance to show the neighborhood some love.”
