Elite Physical Therapy picked up its first win of the Mon Valley Independent Summer Basketball League season with a lopsided 76-50 win over short-handed Campy’s Pizza in the opening game of Thursday’s action at Marx’s Court Time Sports Center.
Elite PT (1-1) used a 17-0 run in the opening six minutes of the game to pull away early, giving head coach Vada Epps a much better start than the season opener.
“It was a good start. I thought we really started to mesh and we got contributions from everyone,” Epps said. “It’s good to get this win and get our confidence up. They were really shorthanded, but we did what we had to do.”
Epps continuously changed lineups, subbing four and five guys at a time.
“We knew they were short, so we wanted to make sure we kept fresh legs and keep up the speed and the pressure,” Epps said.
Makhai Valentine – a junior from Steel Valley – led the way for Elite PT, scoring 10 points in the 17-0 run on his way to a 17-point game.
“I talked to Makhai earlier on and told him this game is more than putting the ball into the hoop,” Epps said. “It’s about rebounding and defense, too. College coaches watch for those things. He did a lot of those things today.”
