AMD’s streak ends at hands of Cedarbrook

For the first time in the short history of the Mon Valley Independent Summer Basketball League’s girls division, AMD Industries has entered the loss column.

Cedarbrook never trailed and outlasted a late rally from AMD to hand the defending champions a 60-57 loss Wednesday at Marx’s Court Time Sports Center in Elizabeth Township.

Playing without Our Lady of Sacred Heart senior forward Katie Hoff, Cedarbrook (2-0) relied on the play of its other veterans to snap AMD’s 13-game winning streak.

Alyssa Clutter (Trinity) led the way with 18 points for Cedarbrook, while fellow senior Jazmine Dunn (Woodland Hills) added a 15-point effort in the triumph.

“It was a really big adjustment playing without Katie Hoff,” Cedarbrook head coach Mariah Ward said. “I told the girls we had coming in that they had to play hard and give it all they had. We knew they were going to try and take advantage of us not having her, so we knew we had to play hard.”

While Ward received contributions from each of her active players, the leadership of Clutter and Dunn stood out.

“I couldn’t have asked for anything more from Alyssa. She did everything I asked her to do; she got people involved, she handled the ball and she took control when she had to,” Ward said of her first overall pick. “Her leadership skills were amazing on the floor and that’s why I drafted her first.

“Jazmine hustled all game. She didn’t give up one time and she led the way alongside Alyssa. I’m really glad to have two seniors that can lead this young group and show them what it’s like to face adversity and succeed as an underdog team.”
