Now that Pennsylvania’s mask mandate has been lifted, the McKeesport Area School District is taking similar action.
The district issued a statement Monday saying that “in alignment” with the masking order being dropped, MASD will no longer require students or staff to wear masks in school buildings, during summer camps or at athletic events.
The Department of Health continues to urge Pennsylvanians to follow CDC guidance for wearing masks where required by law, rule and regulations, including health care, local business and workplace guidance.
MASD said “students and staff are welcome to continue to wear masks based on a personal decision.”
The district is continuing to work with the Allegheny County Health Department, the state Department of Education “and other public health experts to ensure that we are following proper protocols for the health and safety of staff and students.”
MASD issued a series of “common sense health practices” including washing and sanitizing hands on a regular basis, “utilizing best practices in respiratory hygiene (coughing and sneezing into your elbow)” and “being aware of personal space and allowing other scholars to have personal space as well.”
