A small plane crashed in Washington County Monday evening, leaving two people hospitalized.
Ellsworth Volunteer Fire Department Chief Craige Pysh said there wasn’t much information he could offer about the crash, but confirmed crews were called out around 6:15 p.m. to the scene, which was in a field behind the area of 295 School Road and Short Cut Road in Somerset Township.
The fire chief said the aircraft was a Cessna plane that had landed in a field after flying from Greene County.
He didn’t know why the plane landed in the field, but said it appears the plane crashed when it was getting ready to take back off.
Pysh said two people were flown via two STAT MedEvac medical helicopters to area trauma hospitals, but he wasn’t sure of their condition around 8 p.m. Monday.
The fire chief said Pennsylvania State Police from the Washington barracks are working with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board to investigate.
Pysh said crews were on the scene of the crash for around an hour and 45 minutes.
Also responding to the scene were Fallowfield Fire Company and Ambulance and Chair EMS.
