Monongahela has many historic landmarks, and on Tuesday residents can learn about one of them that some people consider overlooked.

The Monongahela Area Historical Society will kick off its Summer Speaker Series at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow when Richard Bucchianeri and Jack Cattaneo discuss the Monongahela Cemetery Chapel. The presentation will take place at the chapel, which has recently undergone numerous renovations.

Tuesday’s event is one of four speaker presentations the society will host over the summer to highlight the area’s numerous landmarks.

“It’s a gem of a building and a lot of people don’t know it’s a historic location,” historical society President Laura Magone said of the chapel. “I think it’s something people take for granted.

“The people who run the cemetery have to work so hard just to keep the cemetery going. This gives them a chance to showcase what they’ve done.”
