Throughout his four-year career at Elizabeth Forward, Andrew Smith made his presence felt on more playing fields than one.
Whether it was on the soccer pitch, the football field or the track, Smith made the most of his time as a three-sport star.
He expects to do the same at the collegiate level as a two-sport athlete.
Smith will be playing soccer and running track at Seton Hill University this fall.
He will play soccer for head coach Dan McCarty and run for head track and field coach Bobby Over.
“It made the choice easy not having to just choose to play one sport,” said Smith, the son of Jason and Alison Smith of Elizabeth. “I have been playing soccer since I was 4 years old, so I would have probably chosen soccer if I had to choose to just play one sport in college.
“I have been a multiple sport athlete since I was in the seventh grade, so I feel well prepared for it. I know it’s going to be a challenge going to the collegiate level, but I am ready for it.”
Smith had multiple offers to continue his athletic career whether it was in soccer, track and field or football. Smith served as the kicker and punter for the Warriors over the last four seasons. He was honored with the Mon Valley Independent-BeeGraphix Specialist of the Year award for his efforts last fall.
Smith said he had five soccer offers and four apiece to compete in track and field or football. He added that most schools wanted him to participate in both soccer and track and field.
