Alvin “Ziggy” Mucci, 96, of New Eagle, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, June 23, 2021. He was born Oct. 22, 1924, in Black Diamond, a son of the late Pietro and Clara Pellegrini Mucci. Following high school, Ziggy went to work for Black Diamond Coal Company. He then joined the U.S. Navy and was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in Guam from 1943-46. Following his return home from the service, he was employed at Donora Zinc Works, until its closing and then was employed at U.S. Steel Irvin works, where he retired in 1986. While employed at U.S. Steel, Ziggy also served as a part-time police officer for the borough of New Eagle. He was a member of the Riverview Baptist Church in New Eagle, a founding member of the New Eagle Community Action Group, a 50-year member of the Charleroi-Monongahela Lodge 337 F&AM, a former member and past president of the Monongahela Lions Club and the Ginger Hill Grange and was a member of Sutman Yohe VFW Post 1409 in Black Diamond. Ziggy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He especially loved family trips to his cabin in Bedford. His family meant the world to him. He is survived by his daughter, Darla Bodnar of New Eagle; two sons, Alvin and his wife Lisa Mucci and James and his wife Rhonda Mucci, all of Monongahela; six grandchildren, Kimberly and her husband Aaron Koontz, Michelle and her husband Keith Woods, Antonio and his wife Cara Mucci, Tyler Mucci and his girlfriend Janiel Bradley, Justin and his wife Stephanie Mucci, and Lindsay Mucci and her boyfriend Anthony Lazzari; 10 great-grandchildren, Ashley Koontz, Coulson and his wife Payton Koontz, Madison Woods, Bella Mia, Camilia, Lucia, Skyler, Gavin, Madeline and Austin Mucci; one great-great-granddaughter, Hazel Koontz; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 72 years, Susan Smith Mucci, who died Aug. 31, 2019; daughter, Carolyn Sue Mucci; son-in-law, William Bodnar; brothers Dan, Nello, Orlando and Herman Mucci; and a sister, Elaine “Toots” Taddeo. Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2021, and Sunday, June 27, 2021, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 West Main St., Monongahela, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 28, 2021, with the Rev. David Johnson and Deacon Joseph Anders co-officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Mon Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Riverview Baptist Church, 405 Main St., New Eagle, PA 15067. The Mid-Mon Valley Shipmates will conduct a two-bell ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday and the Charleroi-Monongahela Lodge 337 F&AM will conduct services at 7 p.m. Sunday, both in the funeral home.
