Monessen council took action this month that will save the city money on its workers’ compensation insurance.
At this month’s meeting, council agreed to accept a proposal from McGowan Governmental Underwriters for workers’ compensation for a one-year deal starting July 1.
The contract will save a little more than $52,500 annually.
In other business, council agreed to:
• Advertise an expired term on the police civil service commission. Anyone who is interested in serving on the commission should contact city hall.
• Replace an unsafe sidewalk on Donner Avenue at a cost of $21,000. Joseph’s Nursery was the lowest responsible bidder.
