Betty Sue Brewster Lester – New Eagle

Betty Sue Brewster Lester, 86, of New Eagle, died Sunday, May 30, 2021, in Manor Care, Whitehall. She was born Feb. 4, 1935, in Keystone, W.Va., the daughter of Carl and Bertha Lockhart Brewster. Betty spent most of her life in West Virginia and was a member of the Baptist Church in Cyclone, where she and her husband, Virgil, were very active. In 1966, Betty moved from West Virginia to Monongahela where she resided for numerous years. She was employed at Corning Glass in Charleroi from 1976 to 1992, until she retired to care for her older brother, Ezra, after he became ill. She loved spending time with her children, playing bingo and going to the casinos. She is survived by two daughters and a son, Marilynn Taylor; and Virgil “Bossy” Lester, with whom she made her home; and Delena Hudock and husband Gene of Finleyville; three sisters, Verna Scott of Dallas, N.C., Buelah Scott of Mt. Holly, N.C., Sara Ball of Stanley, N.C. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Lester Sr., who died Dec. 23, 1996; son-in-law, Chris Taylor, who died May 30, 2016; three brothers, Ezra, Dennis and Everett Brewster; and two sisters, Luella Cottle and Mary Belle LeGrand. Friends will be received from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2021, in the Riverview Baptist Church, 405 Main St., New Eagle, where a memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Betty will be laid to rest in the family plot at Short’s Cemetery in Brier Creek, W.Va. Arrangements are under the direction of Frye Funeral Home Inc., Monongahela.
