Laurel knocks out Frazier again

There will be a new Class 2A softball champion in the state after the Frazier softball team’s season came to an end Monday.

After a lengthy delay of nearly two hours, the Commodores saw their season end with a 6-0 loss to Laurel at North Allegheny High School.

Laurel, which has become quite the thorn in the side for Frazier over the past few seasons, will advance to face Union City, the No. 2 seed out of District 10 in the state quarterfinals.

“They’ve become my Neshannock from the baseball days,” Frazier coach Don Hartman said. “But you know, we got there and were ready to take the field then the lightning delay. Then the rains came. All of a sudden, Laurel throws over this ball with a Tic-Tac-Toe board on it. So there we are, playing games. Then we had a dance off and dance party.

“But I think that really loosened our girls up a little bit. Because we were going in there knowing there’s a team we’re facing that just handed us our lunch last week. By the time we got started, though, they were just a bunch of girls out there playing ball and having fun and I thought we played a great game today. They had three earned runs, that’s it.”
