Douglas L. Byron Sr. – Belle Vernon

Douglas L. Byron Sr., 80, of Belle Vernon, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 5, 2021, after a nine-year battle with cancer. A son of the late Leonard and Lorinna Barnes Byron, he was born in North Belle Vernon on Aug. 18, 1940. A resident of Belle Vernon for most of his adult life, he was a member of Howe United Methodist Church, Tri-County Lodge 252 F.&A.M. and was a life member of the Star Junction Fish and Game Club. He was also a former Boy Scout leader and retired in 1997 after 38 years from Columbia Gas Company. He loved his grandchildren, as well as hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Shirley Barker Byron; two sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Sharon Byron Jr. and Curt and Lori Byron, all of Rostraver Township; three sisters-in-law, Donah Byron of Rostraver Township, Nancy Byron of Belle Vernon, and Margaret Byron of Ohio; four grandchildren, Lyndsey Young (Adam) and Amanda Battaglini (Tony), all of Rostraver Township, Nicole Byron of Monessen and Erik Byron (Amanda) of Rostraver Township; and seven great-grandchildren, Isaac, Liam, Elijah, Cam, Cole, Jayden and Amaya. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Susan Priloh; and three brothers, Kenneth, Robert and Larry Byron. A memorial service will be held at Howe United Methodist Church, 519 Dally Road, Coal Center, PA 15423 at noon Saturday, June 12, 2021, with the Rev. Brian Carroll officiating. Interment will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery at a later date.
