The public hearing for the proposed Invenergy gas-fired power plant in Elizabeth Borough has been moved to 6 p.m. today.

The Allegheny County Health Department air quality permit hearing had originally been scheduled for 10 a.m.

Those presenting testimony at the Zoom hearing were required to pre-register, but the session will be available for viewing by the general public on the Allegheny County Health Department’s Facebook page, according to Joanne Truchan, the Air Quality section chief for engineering.

According to a joint news release from the Mountain Watershed Association and the Environmental Integrity project, the proposed plant would increase pollution for the local community as well as into environmental justice areas in Westmoreland County, outside the jurisdiction of the ACHD.

According to the release, the power plant would emit air pollutants of concern, such as nitrogen oxides, fine particulates and hazardous air pollutants such as benzene, formaldehyde and toluene.
