Fire departments’ cash bash headed outdoors

The Charleroi and Monessen No. 1 fire departments will team up again this year for their largest joint fundraiser.

Last year’s event had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but for the previous four years, the departments worked together twice a year to host a cash bash for Mon Valley residents.

This year they are taking a new approach to make sure their fundraiser is successful.

On July 10, Chamber Plaza in Charleroi will be filled with residents, music and food vendors as hundreds of dollars in cash are given away every 15 minutes.

The cash bash, which is typically held in March and December at the fire department’s social hall in Monessen, has been moved outside to allow for increased attendance.

Charleroi Fire Department President Glenn Shipley said previous years’ tickets were $20 and included food.

This year, the cash bash has turned into an event with more of a festival feel. It will be held in Chamber Plaza from 2 to 7 p.m. and will feature a DJ, cornhole and food trucks.

Tickets are $10, and food will be purchased separately. Each ticket secures one entry for each drawing.

Each hour, $500 will be given away, with $250 prizes every 15 minutes.
