Locally grown bright red radishes, leafy greens and bright orange carrots.
Homemade nut rolls, juicy red strawberries and golden honey made by buzzing McKeesport bees.
Those were just some of the items tantalizing the taste buds and catching the eyes of people in Renziehausen Park over the weekend.
The Renzie Market — McKeesport’s exclusive farmers market — had its opening day Saturday.
Those wanting an array of fresh fruits, veggies and herbs — as well as some sweet treats, flowers and plants for the garden, handcrafted items and more — found exactly what they were looking for under the various tents.
The Renzie Market is in its fourth year, and all vendors who participate are local.
It will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through Aug. 28 in the parking lot behind McKeesport Renzie Fire Station No. 2.
There will be no Renzie Market during Fourth of July weekend.
Toni Lucas operates the Timeless Crochet booth and is one of the people who helps organize and run the market. She works with other Renzie Market founding members, D.T. Korinko and Kevin Halaszynski, who also operate 2 Guys and a Coffee Stand, and the market manager, Joelle Harbert, who operates the Daryl’s Famous Nutrolls booth.
“We try to have something for everyone, like a variety,” Lucas said of the market.
