Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival will return Labor Day weekend

Despite a valiant effort by organizers to host the Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival last year, the event couldn’t safely be held because of COVID-19 restrictions.

As restrictions have lifted across the state, organizers have announced the festival, which attracts thousands of people from around the region, will return to West Newton in September.

Organizers tried to wait out the pandemic last year. They decided the festival would be canceled late in their season, after postponing opening day.

In announcement from the “king” on Facebook Friday, organizers invited residents for six weeks of jousting, feasts and entertainment beginning Labor Day weekend.

Each year, the festival turns a West Newton field into a medieval kingdom that features entertainment, games, rides and food for all ages.

This year’s festival was originally set to open Aug. 21 and run Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 26, but those dates were changed.

The festival will be open on weekends from Sept. 4 through Oct. 10.

The post on social media drew praise from internet goers excited to dress up, joust and grab a turkey leg.

As of press time, the announcement had been liked more than 2,300 times and was shared more than 1,700 times. Nearly 700 users took time to comment their excitement.
