Elizabeth addresses parking questions at new lot

Elizabeth Borough Council had questions Tuesday regarding the proposed parking lot at the site of the former Moose Building in the downtown area.

Council President Chad Rager said once allowances are made for ingress and egress from the lot, the borough will lose five parking spots on the street to gain nine parking spots in the lot, which is being constructed by the Elizabeth Area Development Corporation.

Councilwoman Cindy Morris, who heads the planning committee for the borough, said she had not yet received updated plans for the lot. EADC president Larry Ross said he gave the plan to Councilman Andy Miklos at the last EADC meeting. Miklos then handed the drawing to Morris.

The entrance and exit for the lot must be approved by PennDOT, since they are on a state road.

“I talked to PennDOT last week and there’s no application on file,” Miklos said.

Miklos said the engineer will also need to address drainage issues for the parking lot.

Miklos also pointed out that funding for the project, including a $300,000 grant from Allegheny County to the EADC, has not yet been released because engineering drawings haven’t been submitted to the funding agency.

“We can’t be OK with this until it’s approved by PennDOT,” Morris said. “There’s no engineering stamps on any of this.”
