Stephen R. Barkey – Monongahela

Stephen R. Barkey, 73, of Monongahela, died unexpectedly Friday, May 28, 2021, in his home. He was born March 31, 1948, in New Eagle, son of the late Steve J. and Susan Weygandt Barkey and stepson of the late Mary Butera Barkey, who raised him since childhood. Steve retired from U.S. Steel’s Clairton Works after 36 years of employment. He was a Vietnam veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, and was Catholic by faith. He is survived by his son, Bill Watson and wife Jodi of Rostraver Township; two stepsons, Shawn and Christopher Trump; granddaughter, Rachel Watson and daughter; four brothers, Martin Barkey and wife Andrea of New Eagle, David Barkey and wife Kimberly of Monongahela, Robert Barkey of Monongahela, and the Rev. Patrick Barkey of Charleroi; sister-in-law, Peggy Barkey of Latrobe; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and stepmother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lori A. Williams Barkey, who died Jan. 29, 2015; daughter, Tammy Barkey, who died April 15, 2008; and brother, Michael Barkey. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 W. Main St., Monongahela. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2021, in St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, Monongahela, with the Rev. Patrick Barkey as celebrant. Committal services and interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Charitable Foundation at Latrobe Area Hospital, c/o Michael A. Barkey, CRNA Scholarship Fund, 121 W. Second Ave., Latrobe, PA 15650 or the McGuire Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 48, New Brighton, PA 15066. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.fryefuneralhome.com.
